Understanding Rates of Magma Generation & Transport Beneath Mt. Shasta in Human Terms with Dr. Christy Till
Location:
Event Date: Feb. 23, 2026
In this talk, , geologist and professor at Arizona State University, will explore the amount of magma generated through time below the volcano known as Mt. Shasta (Northern California), the key processes that alter that magma and the rates it travels on route to the surface, and what causes it to erupt. We will consider these quantities and rates in terms that are relatable to our everyday lives. These rates and processes will then be compared to those at other volcanoes in the Cascades volcanic arc and other arcs globally.
