Eligibility

Successful applicants may exhibit qualifications higher than the minimum requirements if applications exceed capacity.

Participants demonstrate eligibility and scholarly purpose and preparation through:

  • Clear intercultural and intellectual/academic goals and a well researched justification for the choice of program and location demonstrated in the written proposal;

  • Strong preparation for the program curriculum including B grades in coursework focused on the host destination, such as language, politics, culture, or area studies by the time of departure.

  • Many programs require B grades in at least one four-credit host country language course completed (102 level or above) if offered at Oxy by the time of departure. See program-specific eligibility criteria.

  • Direct connection to the intended major or minor (usually 2+ on-site major/minor courses) and through research into the country relevant to themes in the major; 

  • Informed interest in the country, culture, educational system, and/or people of the specific program site as compellingly articulated in the application essays.

  • Independent capacity to:

    • follow instructions, 

    • meet deadlines, 

    • respond to communication in a timely, polite and mature manner.

  • Enroll in and earn 16 credits each semester prior to participation.

  • 3.0 cumulative GPA, 3.3 on UK, HK, NZ and Australia programs.

  • Bs in 3-5 courses in the intended or declared major by the time of departure.

  • No INC grades at the time of application. 

  • No INC, NR, D, U or F grades the semester prior to participation.

  • Prerequisites of program sponsor may be higher than Oxy’s minimums. Check their websites!!!

  • Junior or Senior at the time of participation.
